I have naturally thick, wavy/curly hair and I've tried almost every trick in the book to try and style it -- it's about 4 inches past my shoulders with my shortest layer to about my chin (it sounds weird, but it's half for when I straighten my hair -- it looks better). Whenever I "scrunch" my hair the ends are always WAY curly and the top has almost no, if any wave, and it looks discusting. My hair also tends to get frizzy and weighed down if I scrunch it too much or use too much product. Also, my hair tends to be curlier in some spots than others...I call it "ugly wavy" haha
Examples of what I'd like:

Thank you all :)
How exactly do I define my natural curls/wavy hair?
try to use a pomade to control the frizzyness of your hair. but don't put any at the top of your hair near your roots so it won't way it down.
you could try curling near your roots to create more volume.

Put any styling product that you like in it. Mousse works good. Then twist 1 inch sections of your hair and bobby pin at the top of your head. Do this to your whole head and then blow dry till pretty much dry. Take all bobby pins out, little tossle your hair and apply hairspray. lightly scrunch if needed.

i think your hair is beautiful. i would suggest in order for you to have more control ,because it is so thick, that a body wave with the largest rods would help you immensly. also a few long layers would be of great help.
