Do you think its true that wearing your hair a shade lighter than natural color makes you look young

A French beauty consultant said this in an interview in a beauty magazine I was reading. What do you think? I have fair skin and dark brown hair - I know the contrast can look harsh, esp. in winter when I don't have the natural reddish highlights from the sun. I don't think it makes me look older, though, even when I wear my hair darker than normal - I'm always told I look young for my age (25).

If I dye my hair any darker, though, my mom says she thinks it will look witchy. :P Though, I'd like a change, and going lighter is more damaging and costlier to maintain. I'm thinking of putting a dark blonde shade on it which makes it a lighter brown color. Do you think it's true that going a bit lighter than your natural color makes you look younger? I don't exactly want to look younger than my age at this point, but I don't want to look older either!

I guess it really depends on your hair type and how old you actually are. Since you are only 25 I wouldn't really worry about making yourself look young -- you already are. Not to mention I think the contrast of pale skin and dark hair is striking.

My mom has light brown hair but she always dyes it blonde. She just looks like somebody that refuses to accept her age and is trying to look really young (which is what is happening, lol).

So really it is just up to you to decide what looks good.

depends..

i would only go as light as your hair was when you were a child...usually our hair gets darker as we age. maintaining a all over lighter color can be costly to get done at a salon...which is really the safest way to chemically treat your hair. i would recommend highlites. you can go about 3 months before you need them done again, sometimes longer if you spend a lot of time outside. plus you can add highlites and lowlights ( a darker shade ) for a more dimensional look.
